The musician and his wife put about $1 million into renovating the house, which they’ve owned for 10 years
Imagine Dragons bassist Ben McKee listed his Oakland, California, home on Monday for $1.295 million.
McKee, 39, bought the Bay Area home in 2014—two years after the pop rock band released its debut album, “Night Visions”—for $1.15 million, according to property records. McKee bought the home to be a calming escape from his life of touring and recording, according to a news release from Compass, the listing agency.
In the last 10 years, McKee and his wife, Mary, have remodeled much of the home’s interior, customizing it to their needs.
“The McKees spent nearly $1 million to expand the home’s living space, adding two decks, another bedroom, and bath on a lower level with a separate entry, a hot tub, and air conditioning,” listing agent Sharon Ho of Compass said in a statement.
Additionally, they’ve completely renovated the kitchen, creating an open-concept chef’s kitchen with a large stove, a butcher block workspace, dual sinks, and a walk-in pantry.
“From recording segments for cooking shows with Ming Tsai and Paris Hilton in the professional-quality kitchen, rolling out dough on the butcher board countertops, to composing music with the doors open to a refreshing breeze, enjoying the quiet solitude of a dead-end road in the hills, there have been so many things that I look back on with fondness,” McKee said in a statement.
Located in the hills of Oakland’s Montclair neighborhood, the home has 2,696 square feet of interior space, three bedrooms and three bathrooms. The primary suite loft features an updated bathroom that has a double vanity, a walk-in rain shower, and a jetted tub, according to the listing.
Tuscan-inspired, hand-plastered white walls fill the bright, airy interiors and are accented with wood ceiling beams in the main living spaces.
In addition to deck space on each of the three levels, there’s a hot tub perched above the home, which takes in the views of the bay and the San Francisco skyline.
“I’ve never lived in a place like it and I know that I will never find another place like it,” McKee said. “From the thrill of watching the Blue Angels buzz the house for fleet week to counting the stars from the hot tub after a long day, our time there and all of the memories we’ve made will be something that we treasure for the rest of our lives.”
