Jones, 31, had been spotted at the Old Trafford side following his injury nightmare.

He has now revealed that he is starting a global football sport directorship course after deciding on his next career move.

He wrote: “Start of a new journey.

“Great to begin the global football sport directorship course with the PFA business school, learning new things about the game, whilst also continuing to push ahead with my A licence and badges at the club that gave me so much.

“Excited to get started.”

The caption was accompanied by a collection of photos in which he appears to be overseeing training at Manchester United.

Club sources have suggested that the defender was watching a few Under 18 sessions and has not been offered a coaching role.

He had been at the club for 12 years before his exit in the summer, having signed from Blackburn Rovers.

His final few years at the club were hampered by injury which severely limited his playing time.

It has been reported that the defender was keen to continue his playing career after leaving the Red Devils.

However, that would have to depend on if he can get himself back to the required fitness.

Jones had been linked with a surprise move to Greek outfit Aris during the summer transfer window.

It is believed that the former England international earned an astonishing £32.5million during his career.

He turned down a testimonial at Old Trafford as he suggested that only his parents would come and watch.
