Anne Hathaway hosted one memorable Ella Enchanted party two decades ago.

During a “Behind the Scenes” segment on The Drew Barrymore Show for an episode that aired Dec. 1, 2023, Hathaway looked back at throwing a party while working on Ella Enchanted, the 2004 fairy-tale movie that marks its 20th anniversary on April 9.

“Speaking of a movie that my daughters and I have watched— if it was the VHS days, the tape would be bare and raw and invisible. Ella Enchanted,” began mother-of-two Barrymore, 49. “You threw a cast party that turned into a rager?

Hathaway, now 41, recalled, “I was really excited. I was Ella of Ella Enchanted, so I’m like, ‘I should throw a cast party and invite the crew and help everybody to know each other.’ So my cousin and I were living in this little apartment just outside of Dublin, two bedrooms, and we invited people.”

“It was like that scene in Mean Girls where Cady is like, ‘Do you think I have enough cheese and crackers for six?’ and they were like, ‘Yeah, you’re good.’ Smash-cut to, I’m like, ‘Wow, the alcohol keeps coming! I’m not ordering it!’ Ireland,” joked Hathaway.

“Someone just kept ordering alcohol and it just turned into this full-blown rager. It was so much fun,” she recalled.

“Anyway, the night ended, and my cousin and I went to sleep,” the Oscar winner continued. “We wake up in the morning and we walk out into our living room with our coffee and we’re like, ‘Oh, there’s a man on the floor. What do we do?’ I’m 19, she’s 21. We’re like, ‘Um, excuse me, good morning,’ and this Irish guy sits up, he looks around and he goes, ‘Ah, not again.’ ”

Barrymore joked, “I’ve been him,” as the pair laughed.

Ella Enchanted‘s cast also included Hugh Dancy, Cary Elwes, Joanna Lumley, Minnie Driver, Eric Idle, Steve Coogan, and Vivica A. Fox.
