Manchester United are ‘tracking New England Revolution keeper Djordje Petrovic’ with David de Gea’s future at the club in limbo

Manchester United are scouting New England Revolution goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic, according to multiple reports.

United are looking at a summer of potentially huge turnover at the position, with David de Gea’s contract expiring next week, Jack Butland off to Rangers after his loan move and Tom Heaton’s future uncertain as well.

And Petrovic is being looked at as an option by the club after finishing second in MLS Goalkeeper of the Year voting last season.

The 23-year-old Serbian national joined New England in April 2022 and has a contract until 2025 with a club option. He’s made two appearances for his country’s senior national side.

He made 21 starts for New England last season and kept seven clean sheets.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Petrovic would not be considered first-choice at United.

Nonetheless, the Red Devils seem to be preparing for the possible departure of de Gea, who has spent the last 12 seasons as the club’s starting goalkeeper.

No extension has been signed yet with the goalie, who makes more than $476,000 (£375,000) per week, and doubts are growing that any common ground will be reached.

To replace de Gea, United are looking into Inter Milan goalie Andre Onana, as Mail Sport previously reported.

United chiefs met with Onana’s agent Albert Botines on Thursday for more discussions about the potential move.

United have also had initial discussions with Inter Milan and there is a hope Onana could be available for around £45m.

Onana previously played for current United manager Erik Ten Hag at Ajax.

United have also assessed the likes of Porto’s Diogo Costa, Brentford’s David Raya and Anderlecht’s Bart Verbruggen.
