Jevon Carter could be the starting point guard the Chicago Bulls have been looking for

Jevon Carter could fit right in and assume the starting point guard role.

The Chicago Bulls are in dire need of a floor general. After once-promising guard Lonzo Ball underwent another knee procedure last April, there’s no assurance that the UCLA star would be returning to an NBA floor any time soon. And with Coby White, Ayo Dosunmo, and Pat Beverley becoming free agents this offseason, the Bulls seem to have a void at point guard.

This is where Jevon Carter can step right in. Fresh off an outstanding season for the Milwaukee Bucks, where he racked up career-high numbers in nearly every category, the 27-year-old can opt out of his current contract and assume a more prominent role with the Bulls.

Elite ballhound

This season, the Bulls finally got into a groove when veteran guard Pat Beverley took over. A ferocious defender, and a boisterous leader with a decent shot from the outside, the Bulls followed Beverley’s lead and made it into the Play-in Tournament. Although he is more of a quiet type, Carter brings many of the same qualities that Beverley had, which may bode well for the Bulls.

Considered to be one of the league’s best ball hounds who’s fully capable of tracking an opponent from one end of the floor to the other, Carter’s versatility also addresses the Bulls’ needs. He could help the team contain some of the more athletic point guards they face and be an integral part of their defensive schemes.

Lights-out shooter

Offensively, his ability to play off-ball should fit well with the Bulls’ system when paired with star guard Zach LaVine. With a combination of lights-out shooting off the catch and a solid mid-range game, Carter can provide plenty of scoring punch to complement LaVine’s arsenal.

However, it remains to be seen if Carter would indeed opt out of his contract or if the Bulls have enough to entice the West Virginia product to come to Chicago. Regardless, the Bulls’ front office may be wise to investigate the possibility of bringing in Carter, as he fits their roster needs and could help them take the next step toward becoming a playoff contender.
