Erik ten Hag gives Kobbie Mainoo update ahead of Manchester United vs Borussia Dortmund
Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo is scheduled to miss two months with an injury sustained in a friendly match against Real Madrid, but his teammate Erik ten Hag is certain that Mainoo will return better than ever.
United’s final game of the United States tour is Sunday’s matchup versus Dortmund in Las Vegas, and the club has made sweeping changes to the starting lineup from the 1-0 loss to Real Madrid in Houston.
Tom Heaton will start in goal, while Diogo Dalot, Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, and Brandon Williams will be tasked with protecting him from a Dortmund team that finished second in the Bundesliga last season. Despite Maguire’s inclusion in the starting lineup at the Allegiant Stadium, it is expected that Scott McTominay would lead the squad and be responsible for coordinating the play of Christian Eriksen and Donny van de Beek in the center of the field.
After suffering an injury in the previous game against Real Madrid, Mainoo returned home for medical attention and is not available for selection.
After discussing the upcoming match against Dortmund in Las Vegas with MUTV, Ten Hag provided an update on Mainoo. He predicted a thrilling matchup, praising both the venue and the quality of their opponents.
In two weeks, the league season officially begins, so we need to get to our respective levels. We have to advance to the next level in every game we play. We’ve got a long way to go if we want to raise the bar this season, but we’re hoping to see some progress in this game.
So far, I think we’ve done really well. Our team is pretty fit. Sadly, Kobbie Mainoo sustained a major injury, which is a setback not only for him but for the team as a whole given how well he had been playing up to that moment.
You have to deal with the squad because we have it. He needs to get back on his feet on his own, but we’ll be here for him if he needs us. He’s so tough; I have no doubt he’ll make a comeback.
