Mike Trout isn’t playing in the MLB All-Star Game; why? newest information and injury updates on Angels star

For the 10th consecutive season, Mike Trout was voted as an AL starter for the MLB All-Star Game.

However, fans will be disappointed to see that one of the faces of the league won’t be in attendance.

Trout will not be one of the players in attendance for the 2023 Midsummer Classic. The Angels outfielder was named to his 11th All-Star team and 10th as a starter after hitting .263 with 18 home runs and 44 RBIs through the first half of the season.

Here’s everything you need to know about Trout’s absence from the All-Star Game, including injury updates and who is replacing him in the event:

Why isn’t Mike Trout in the MLB All-Star Game?

Trout is not participating in the 2023 All-Star Game as he continues to recover from surgery on his left hand.

He confirmed on July 7 that he will not be traveling to Seattle for the weekend festivities.

“It was a tough decision for me, but I got to get my hand right,” Trout said Friday before the All-Star Break.

Unfortunately, Trout missing the All-Star Game has been a trend in his career. He has been absent from the All-Star Game three times before, playing in only seven of his previous 10 selections. With a fourth absence added in 2023, Trout will have missed over a third of the All-Star Games he was named to.

What is Mike Trout’s injury?

Trout is recovering from a fractured left wrist. He underwent surgery last week to repair the ailment, and is expected to return in four to eight weeks.

While some baseball players have been able to come back from that specific injury in a month, Trout admitted that he is anticipating his return to be closer to two months. However, he was adamant that he will be back this season.

The Angels placed Trout on the IL on July 4. He has not played since July 3.

Who is replacing Mike Trout in the All-Star Game?

Trout is one of 13 All-Stars who will not participate in this year’s All-Star Game due to injury.

Houston’s Kyle Tucker was named as an injury replacement for Trout, while his starting spot in the AL outfield went to Texas’ Adolis Garcia.

Below is the full list of replacements for the 2023 All-Star Game:
